First opened in the 1930s and passed through a few different owners, this place has never tried to become anything other than what it already is. It is not modernist. It is not art deco. It is simply, a very beautiful and cosy Greek interior.
The walls carry years of smoke and conversation. The tables and chairs feel like they have always been there. Nothing is styled for effect. Nothing feels curated. It just exists in its own way. For once I will not overexplain it and let the photos speak for themselves. I hope you don’t mind!
But if you ever find yourself in Athens, make sure you visit Oikonomou Taverna. Sit down, order something traditional, and take your time.
