About Me

Hello everyone, welcome to Placesineedtogoandsee.

Placesineedtogoandsee was founded in 2024 by myself, Su Demir. I am an architect, born and raised in East London, with a Turkish heritage background. I studied at The Bartlett School of Architecture and the Royal College of Art.

The account itself began as a personal diary. I have always had a strong interest in observing modernist architecture, often finding myself drawn as well to art deco and brutalist buildings. Studying architecture made it feel natural to document the places I visit and to write about them.

Over time, this way of working led me beyond buildings. I became interested in older caffs and street details that still hold something of the 1960s and 1970s. I often find myself focusing on something small within a space, a piece of furniture, a material, even a brand name on an everyday object. From there, the research opens up into something much larger.

Through this account, I hope to encourage people to look more closely. Not just at the image, but at the story behind it. To understand the history, the people and, where relevant, the businesses that have shaped these spaces, and to appreciate them with a bit more attention before they disappear.
